Data Recovery Guarantee

Recovery success is based on the requirements agreed before recovery begins. If you identify specific files, folders, or other target data, success is determined by whether those agreed targets are recovered. If you do not identify target data, or request “all data,” “everything,” or “unknown,” the recovery is considered successful when any usable user data is recovered, and the recovery fee applies.

Usable user data means readable customer-created files recovered from the submitted device, excluding operating-system files, temporary files, and recovery-process metadata.

Evaluation Fee

An evaluation fee applies to the device types listed below. This fee functions as a deposit: it is credited in full toward the recovery fee if you approve the recovery, and refunded if the recovery is unsuccessful or the device is determined to be unrecoverable.

HDD, SSD, USB flash drive, memory card, mobile phone, tablet, gaming console, floppy disk, tape, CD/DVD, Zip/Jaz disk, magneto-optical disk, voice recorder, DVR, answering machine, and drone/UAV.

Collected as a deposit
For the device types listed above, an evaluation fee is collected up front when your case is opened. It covers the comprehensive evaluation of your device.
Credited toward your recovery
If you approve the recovery, the evaluation fee is credited in full toward the recovery fee — you are not charged for it twice.
Refunded if we can't recover
If the recovery is unsuccessful, or the device is determined to be unrecoverable, the evaluation fee is refunded to you.

If the evaluation determines that recovery is technically possible and you choose not to approve the recovery quote, the evaluation fee is non-refundable, because the evaluation service has been completed.

Enterprise storage (RAID, SAN, NAS), virtual machines, and databases are quoted case by case and are not covered by the evaluation fee schedule above. For all other device types, the exact evaluation fee amount is confirmed in writing before your case is opened.

Per-device tier pricing

Every device has Standard, Priority, Weekend, and Emergency options. "Starting at" prices apply to the most common recovery scenario for that tier — final quote is confirmed after evaluation. Enterprise storage (RAID, SAN, and NAS), virtual machines, and databases are quoted case by case, since cost depends on disk count, array level, capacity, and environment complexity.

Remote Recovery
Scheduled remote session, by arrangement
Contact for quote

Our engineers work on your system over a secure remote session, so nothing ships and the data stays on your hardware. Requires the media to be electronically accessible (no physical damage) and a stable connection. Scope and price are quoted after evaluation.

Onsite - Client Site
Scheduled deployment, by arrangement
Contact for quote
EligibilityAvailable to public institutions, healthcare, financial, enterprise and government clients only.

Our engineers travel to your facility and perform the recovery on premises, so the media and recovered data never leave your control. Scope, travel, scheduling and any additional costs are quoted and confirmed in advance.

Evaluation fee applies (refundable deposit). It is credited toward your recovery fee, and refunded if the recovery is unsuccessful or the data is unrecoverable. How it works
Turnaround times are best-effort estimates based on historical averages. Actual timing depends on failure type, media condition, part availability, and lab queue at intake.
Common cases we handle
  • •Unknown or lost backup catalog
  • •Legacy backup software (ARCserve, BackupExec, NetBackup, TSM, Retrospect, tar/dump)
  • •Migration to modern storage
  • •Selective file/folder extraction
  • •Encrypted or password-protected archives
Restoration assumes the tape itself is mechanically healthy and readable. Damaged media is quoted under Tape Physical Recovery.

Tape Physical Recovery

Physically damaged tape media — snapped tape, broken shells, mold, water/fire damage, and cartridges stuck in drives. Performed in a controlled lab environment.

Majority of cases
$900–$1,800

Range: $700–$6,000

  • •Broken cartridge shell
  • •Mold or contamination

Physical work is performed in a controlled lab environment. Success depends on the extent and location of the damage; evaluated case-by-case.

What affects your price

Data recovery is priced per case because every failure is different. These are the factors our engineers weigh when producing your quote.

Storage capacity
Larger drives take longer to image and process; higher capacities generally cost more.
Type of failure
Logical failures (deletion, formatting, corruption) are typically the least expensive. Electronic failures (PCB, controller) fall in the mid-range. Mechanical failures (head crash, motor seizure, platter damage) requiring donor parts are the most involved.
Encryption & security
BitLocker, FileVault, LUKS, self-encrypting drives (SED/OPAL), and enterprise encryption require additional steps and, in some cases, customer-provided keys.
Media condition
Physical damage, fire, water, or prior repair attempts increase complexity and required parts.
Turnaround tier
Standard, priority, and Emergency service determine lab priority and after-hours engineering time.
Data volume returned
Return media (new drive, encrypted USB, secure download) is priced separately based on the amount of data recovered.
Custom engineering

Research & Development (R&D) cases

If there is no existing recovery solution for your device, we may be able to develop one. R&D is a custom solution designed around your specific device and failure, quoted case by case and billed separately from standard recovery pricing.

When no known method exists
Some media, controllers, encryption schemes, and failure modes have no established recovery process. Rather than close the case, our engineers can research whether a viable path can be created.
A solution built for your device
R&D work is engineered specifically for your device, controller, firmware, or failure mode — not an off-the-shelf process. It can involve custom tooling, firmware or protocol work, and chip-level research.
Optional, quoted, and approved first
Because the work is built for one specific case, scope and cost are determined per case. R&D is opt-in, quoted in writing, and never starts until you approve it.
Billed separately from recovery
An R&D fee covers engineering time and is separate from standard recovery pricing. Outcomes cannot be guaranteed, and approved R&D engineering time may be billable even if recovery ultimately isn't possible.

How our process works

  1. Step 1
    Submit your case

Tell us about the device and failure symptoms — takes about 60 seconds.

  2. Step 2
    Comprehensive evaluation

Our engineers diagnose the failure in a controlled lab environment and issue a firm quote.

  3. Step 3
    Approve the quote

You review the price, scope, and turnaround. No work starts until you approve.

  4. Step 4
    Recovery & secure return

Data is returned on encrypted media or via secure download, with a file listing you can verify.

Pricing FAQ

Pricing disclaimers

  • All prices are shown in USD and are starting points for the tier — your final quote is confirmed after our comprehensive evaluation.
  • Onsite - Client Site recovery is quote-only and available to public institutions, healthcare, financial, enterprise and government clients only. Travel, scheduling and scope are quoted and confirmed before any work begins.
  • Recovery pricing depends on the failure type, media condition, and any parts required. No work is performed until you approve a written quote.
  • Remote Recovery is quoted case by case after evaluation. It is only possible when the media is electronically accessible (no physical damage) and a stable remote connection is available.
  • Return-media, shipping, and any special handling (encryption, forensics, chain-of-custody) are priced separately.
  • Turnaround times shown are average estimates. Actual duration varies case by case depending on media type, damage severity, and data volume.
  • Weekend recovery and Emergency 24/7 service carry an additional $1,000–$5,000 weekend / after-hours surcharge on top of the recovery price. The surcharge is quoted and confirmed before any work begins.
  • If no known recovery method exists for your device, we may be able to develop a custom solution engineered for your specific device and failure. This research and development (R&D) work is optional, quoted in writing per case, and billed separately from standard recovery pricing. Approved R&D engineering time may be billable even if recovery is ultimately not possible.
