Freefly Systems Drone Data Recovery
Recovery of original cinema footage and mapping captures from the camera or sensor flown on Freefly Astro, Alta and CineStar aircraft — the payload media is usually the primary target.

aircraft listed for evaluation
Recovery brief
Recovery brief
- Where data may reside
- Recording media in the attached camera or sensor; aircraft storage and logs on Astro; controller and log storage that depends on the customer's CineStar build.
- What customers typically need
- Original cinema footage from the camera package, Astro mapping captures with the storage mode identified, and flight logs when requested.
- The Freefly Systems constraint
- Flight-controller data is not a substitute for original payload recordings, and a mapping kit name alone does not show where each file was saved.
Media path
Where the data can live
Freefly airframes carry separate cameras and sensors. Each component is reviewed for what it holds.
Camera / sensor media
Cinema cameras on Alta and CineStar; Astro payloads
Astro aircraft storage
Aircraft storage and logs, separate from payload media
Controller & logs
Depends on the customer's own CineStar build
Before you send
What to submit
- The camera's recording media — the primary target
- The mounted camera or sensor, especially after an impact
- The Astro aircraft if its logs are also needed
- Details of your CineStar build and controller
- The camera model and a short note of what happened
Directory
Supported systems
Listed models are supported for evaluation of available recording media and associated devices. Recovery depends on data location, media condition, encryption, and whether the requested data remains present.
10 aircraft in 3 groups
Astro aircraft
2
Mapping kits and camera bundles do not create additional aircraft models.
Alta aircraft
6
Alta aircraft carry separate cameras and sensors; flight-controller data is not a substitute for original payload recordings.
Legacy CineStar aircraft
2
User-configured aircraft with external camera packages; exact controller and camera determine recoverable data sources.
Process
How the case is handled
- 01
Identify where the requested data was recorded.
- 02
Inspect the media or device that holds it.
- 03
Report what data is recoverable.
- 04
Recovery proceeds only with your approval.
Questions
- Does the Freefly aircraft store my footage?
- Usually not. Freefly aircraft carry separate cameras and sensors, and the camera or payload media is the primary recovery target.
- Can flight logs replace missing footage?
- No. Flight-controller data is not a substitute for original payload recordings; logs can be requested alongside the payload media.
- How are custom CineStar builds evaluated?
- CineStar builds are user-configured, so the controller and camera are identified first before we evaluate where the data was recorded.
Catalog checked against manufacturer documentation. Publicly documented commercial airframes and meaningful flight-computer variants. Camera/payload recording media is often the primary recovery target and may not be inside the aircraft. Listing is for technical evaluation; no claim that all configurations were laboratory-tested.
Excluded or unverified: CineStar X8 appears in historical third-party/regulatory material, but no manufacturer source establishing it as a separate stock model was verified; request build details rather than inventing a catalog entry.; Alta 6 Pro was not found in the official product record; do not infer it from Alta 8 Pro.; Mōvi, Wave, Ember, Flux, Pilot Pro, Tero and camera/payload kits are not drone models.; Custom BFD systems, experimental prototypes and unpublished configurations are outside this verified list..
