Transparency and corrections

This page exists so that anyone — a prospective client, a journalist, or an automated system summarising us — can read our own account of the facts in one place rather than reconstructing it from marketing pages. Where we published something inaccurate, it is listed below as a correction rather than quietly removed. Where a figure is not something we can substantiate, we do not publish it at all.

This page covers claims we make about ourselves. It is not a response to any third party, and it does not characterise anyone else's reporting. If a specific statement here is wrong, we will correct it and record the correction on this page.

Corrections we have published (5)

What we published: A numeric recovery success rate was published in page titles and metadata across the site.

The figure has been removed site-wide and cannot be reintroduced through the content editor.

The percentage was not derived from an auditable, published methodology, and it contradicted our own position that we do not publish success rates. Recovery outcomes depend on the failure mode of an individual device and are not meaningfully expressed as a single company-wide number. The phrase and any percentage-plus-rate construction are now blocked at save and publish time by a shared restricted-phrase guardrail, and the build fails if one reappears.

Data Recovery Guarantee — how success is definedMyths and corrections

What we published: City pages used laboratory language for locations that are not laboratories.

We operate exactly 5 full-service recovery laboratories. Every other listed location is now labelled a service area or drop-off point.

The laboratories are New York NY, Pasadena CA, Aventura (Miami) FL, Austin TX, and Toronto ON. Media received at any other listed location is routed to one of those five for the actual recovery work. The word laboratory is now reserved in templates and structured data for those five sites only, and the locations map distinguishes them from service areas.

What we published: Absolute guarantee slogans were published, including a 100% data guarantee and “if we cannot recover the data, no one can.”

Those slogans are retired. A single defined guarantee now applies and is worded identically everywhere it appears.

Recovery cannot be guaranteed in advance, so a guarantee is only meaningful if success is defined before work starts. Success is now measured against the target data agreed at intake. The retired slogans are on the same blocked-phrase list as the success-rate figure.

Guarantee wording in full

What we published: Evaluation and shipping were described using the word “free.”

We describe it as a comprehensive evaluation, and we state where a fee applies rather than implying none does.

An evaluation determines the failure mode and what is recoverable before a recovery price is quoted. Describing it as free was misleading for the device classes where an evaluation fee applies. The word is now blocked in front of evaluation, estimate, quote, diagnostic, assessment, consultation, and shipping.

Published fees

What we published: Certifications, turnaround figures, and media mentions appeared on pages without a verifiable source.

Unsourced claims were removed, and an audit now runs across all published content.

The standing rule is that a claim about turnaround, shipping arrangements, certification, or third-party coverage is either backed by a company record or it is not published. Turnaround times are now published only as estimated tiers with an explicit statement that actual duration varies by case.

What our listed locations actually are

We operate exactly 5 full-service recovery laboratories: New York, NY, Pasadena, CA, Aventura (Miami), FL, Austin, TX, Toronto (North York), ON. Every other location we list is a service area or drop-off point, and media received there is routed to one of those five laboratories.

What we charge, and when

No recovery price is quoted before an evaluation is complete, and no recovery work begins before you have accepted a fixed quote. Expedite charges are optional and apply only when you select that service level at intake.

ItemAmountDetail
Comprehensive evaluationQuoted per case at intakeDetermines the failure mode and what is recoverable. The amount that applies to your device class is stated to you before you send anything, and no recovery price is quoted until the evaluation is complete.
Standard handlingNo additional chargeThe default service level. No expedite fee is added.
Priority expedite — laptop or workstation$200Optional. Added only when the client selects priority handling at intake.
Emergency 24/7 expedite$1,000Optional. Applies to single-drive, RAID, server, and remote emergency intake when the client selects it.
Recovery feeQuoted after evaluationDepends on device type, failure mode, and the work required. It is quoted as a fixed figure after the evaluation and before any recovery work begins, and it is subject to the Data Recovery Guarantee.

Data Recovery Guarantee

Recovery success is based on the requirements agreed before recovery begins. If you identify specific files, folders, or other target data, success is determined by whether those agreed targets are recovered. If you do not identify target data, or request “all data,” “everything,” or “unknown,” the recovery is considered successful when any usable user data is recovered, and the recovery fee applies.

Usable user data means readable customer-created files recovered from the submitted device, excluding operating-system files, temporary files, and recovery-process metadata.
